Description
These delightful 3-Ingredient Flower Shortbread Cookies are a simple yet delicious treat. With just butter, sugar, and flour, they are easy to prepare and offer irresistible flavor, making them perfect for any occasion or gift giving.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1/2 cup (1 stick / 115g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- 1/4 cup (35g) powdered sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour, spoon and leveled
- gel or liquid-gel food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, cream together butter, sugar, salt, and vanilla until well combined.
- Add the flour and mix until no dry flour remains in the dough.
- For colored flower petals, separate a bit less than 1/4 of the dough for the centers. Mix your choice of food coloring into the larger portion of dough.
- Roll 1 teaspoon sized portions of each dough into smooth balls. If the dough is sticky, refrigerate for 30 to 60 minutes to firm it up.
- On a parchment-lined baking sheet, shape your cookies into flowers by placing one uncolored ball in the center and surrounding it with five colored balls. Gently press them together and leave space between cookies for baking.
- Chill the shaped cookies in the freezer for 10 minutes while preheating your oven to 350°F.
- Bake in the center of the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, until the cookies have set and are lightly golden around the edges.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
If dough is too sticky, chilling it makes it easier to handle.
Experiment with different food coloring to create vibrant flower designs.
These cookies can be decorated with icing or sprinkles for extra flair.
