Description

These Cinnamon Raisin Hot Cross Buns are perfect for Easter, combining sweet raisins and warm spices in a deliciously soft dough. With simple ingredients and easy prep, they make a great treat for breakfast or a delightful snack!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tbsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp white sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup water
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter
  • 1/4 tsp cinnamon
  • 3 cups all purpose white flour
  • 1/2 cup california raisins
  • oil for brushing bowl
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 3 tbsp icing sugar

Instructions

  • Warm milk in a mixing bowl and add yeast and sugar, stirring to combine. Let it sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
  • Stir in eggs, water, salt, melted butter, and cinnamon into the yeast mixture.
  • Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a dough ball forms.
  • Fold in the raisins until evenly distributed.
  • Grease a bowl with oil, place the dough inside, and cover with a moist towel. Let it rise in a warm spot for 90 minutes.
  • Once risen, divide the dough into 9 large pieces or 12 smaller pieces and place them on a baking pan.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Let the dough rise again for another 30 minutes, covered with a moist towel.
  • Brush the tops of the buns with beaten egg wash.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes until golden.
  • Mix water with icing sugar until thickened, then fill a piping bag with the mixture.
  • Allow buns to cool completely before piping a cross on each one.
  • Serve warm with butter.

Notes

Make sure to prepare the dough in a warm environment for the best rise.
Keep an eye on the buns while baking to prevent over-browning.
