Description

These Caramel Apple Cinnamon Rolls are a delightful treat combining sweet apples and rich caramel in soft, homemade dough. Perfect for breakfast or dessert!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups water, luke warm
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 5½–6 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 large apples, gala, honeycrisp, granny smith, or another tart and sweet variety
  • 1/3 cup butter, melted, or very soft
  • 2/3 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup karo syrup
  • 1/2 15-ounce can sweetened condensed milk

Instructions

  1. In the bowl of a stand mixer, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Stir well and let sit for 5-10 minutes until it bubbles.
  2. Add melted butter, eggs, salt, and 2 cups of flour. Mix on low with the bread hook for 2 minutes until well combined.
  3. Add an additional 3½ cups of flour and mix on low to combine. You may need to add up to 1/2 cup more flour until the dough pulls away from the bowl. Knead on low for 3 more minutes.
  4. Cover the bowl with a kitchen towel and let the dough rest in a warm place for about 30 minutes until it doubles in size.
  5. Turn the dough onto a floured surface and shape it into a small rectangle. Roll it into an approximately 24" x 12" rectangle, about 1/2" thick.

Notes

Ensure the water is luke warm to activate the yeast appropriately.
If the dough is sticky, add a little more flour until the right consistency is achieved.
Letting the rolls rest before baking enhances their fluffiness.
