Description

These Halloween Sugar Cookies (Lofthouse Style!) are soft, flavorful, and easy to make! With a delightful blend of vanilla and almond extracts, topped with vibrant icing, they are perfect for gatherings or holiday festivities.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup sour cream
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • orange & purple & green food coloring
  • halloween sprinkles

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, salt, baking powder, baking soda, and cornstarch. Set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar using an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes.
  3. Mix in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract, then stir in the sour cream until well combined.
  4. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until combined, being careful not to overmix.
  5. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and chill in the fridge for at least an hour.
  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F when ready to bake.
  7. Roll the dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into circles using a 3-inch cookie cutter.
  8. Place the cookies on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake for 8-9 minutes until just barely baked.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool completely before frosting.
  10. To prepare the buttercream, beat the softened butter until fluffy, then add the powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
  11. Gradually mix in the milk until achieving a smooth, spreadable consistency, adding more if necessary.
  12. Divide the frosting into three bowls and color each with different food coloring.
  13. Frost each cookie with a piping bag or offset spatula and top with Halloween sprinkles.

Notes

Chilling the dough helps achieve the ideal texture so be sure not to skip this step.
For a fun twist, feel free to experiment with different food coloring combinations and sprinkles.
These cookies can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
